Introduction to HTML

HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language, which is the most widely used language on the Web to develop web pages.
HTML was created by Berners-Lee in late 1991 but "HTML 2.0" was the first standard HTML specification which was published in 1995. HTML 4.01 was a major version of HTML and it was published in late 1999. Though HTML 4.01 version is widely used currently we are having HTML-5 version which is an extension to HTML 4.01, and this version was published in 2012.

Our HTML tutorials teach you how to create a personal website or site for your business, without forcing you to learn unnecessary theory. We'll get you building your new website in minutes, not hours.
What is a Markup Language?
Imagine any text-based document you have ever read: a website, a book, a PDF, a Word doc, a church bulletin. There is the text, of course — but there's something else: how the text is displayed. Some of the words are larger or smaller, some are italicized or in bold, some are a different color or a different font.
The file that one of these documents is saved into has to contain both the human-readable text and also the information about the display. A number of different ways to accomplish this have been tried, and the most convenient way to do it is to store the information in line with the text itself.
So, for example, if you want to make some text bold or italic, you might do something like this:
I want to make [start bold]these words bold[end bold] and [start ital

2.HTML Tags

HTML is a markup language and makes use of various tags to format the content These tags are enclosed within angle braces <Tag Name>. Except for few tags,
most of the tags have their corresponding closing tags.

Tag  and Description

This tag defines the document type and HTML version.

This tag encloses the complete HTML document and mainly comprises of document header which is represented by <head>...</head> and document body which is represented by <body>...</body> tags.

This tag represents the document's header which can keep other HTML tags like <title>, <link> etc.

The <title> tag is used inside the <head> tag to mention the document title.

This tag represents the document's body which keeps other HTML tags like <h1>, <div>, <p> etc.

This tag represents the heading.
